The papers offer insights into the complex and constantly evolving world of a nuclear scientist. From Lewis's earliest work with Lord Rutherford at the Cavendish Laboratory, through to his work at the Telecommunications Research Establishment, and his many years working on Atomic Energy research at Chalk River, Ontario, the papers give a full picture of the life of a world authority on nuclear energy. Numerous conferences, symposia, lectures and publications on various aspects of nuclear science are represented in these papers. Lewis played an important role in developing almost every theme represented. His stature is shown in the numerous honours and awards bestowed upon him by academic institutions, by governments, and by his colleagues. This documentation, accompanied by photographs, news clippings, and sound tapes, gives a full picture of Lewis's place in the Canadian and international scientific community. The huge series of publications by Lewis is another indication of his importance in his field.
